Many moons ago, a collaboration series began that would one day live in Newgrounds History. Now, it has returned!

Welcome everyone, to the latest 5 Shades Collab!
After 5 Shades of Purple I was SUPPOSED to take over for mynamewontfitin, the creator of the series, and continue things in his brilliant footsteps. How long ago was that? Yeah, it doesn't matter, what matters is the here and now and that 5 Shades is back in action! Don't worry, myname still approves of this, I made sure.

Get Your CS3 File Template (including color palette) by right clicking here and selecting "Save As"

Get Your Flash 8 File Template (including color palette) by right clicking here and selecting "Save As"

MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL THE RULES!

Rules:
-600x400 canvas size (not flash default, be aware)

-24 FPS

-BG Color (canvas color): #FCEBE0

-Only Colors allowed to be used are:
#000000 #4F1A66 #842BAA #D19FEB #FFFFFF

-Break all fonts (select a font and press Ctrl+B a few times)

-Stream all sounds

-Put everything into a movieclip before sending and center it on the stage.

-Name your symbols uniquely. Example: orangeDragon_JKR

- Gradients and Alphas are allowed! No black and white, however.

- There will be a vote at the end to determine who will be included.
- Time limit: None, but preferably more than 5 seconds and under 3 minutes.
- Please try to keep file sizes reasonable by optimizing your work Happy

Theme Word:
"Ring" (Interpret it as you see fit!)

Deadline:
November 29th, 2009 at 11:59 PM (Earlier is better so people can help you improve things up until the deadline!)

When you have something to show, go ahead and show it! People love to see progress, and it's a great motivator to share what you're working on. I've got a few pieces of art started and will share them next week.

Any questions, feel free to e-mail me. Or better yet just ask 'em right here!

If you're also a Newgrounds member, here's the thread located over there.
And the color palette:

And if you'd like a signature to spread the word:

So, we need to think of anything that has to do with the theme ring?

Correct. It can truly be anything you want. I won't muddy your imagination with my own plot just yet (I don't want to take away ideas by putting one in your head) but you can probably already see different ideas forming if you just go check the definition of the word. Lots of room to play with!

The rules are easy. You just download the template file and BAM, most of the rule are taken care of.  Happy

If I had flash, I would have a terrible attempt at this, but... meh.

Too bad I never found a reasonably priced and legal copy of flash.

I'm very interested - Are we only allowed to use the three layers? Which are we allowed to animate on?

No no, you can use as many layers as you want. The top two layers are just locked in the template so I have a reference for everyone's entries. Just create layers below that, whatever number you need.

I'm assuming we can use two of the colors to mix a gradient effect if we want?

Wait, so no black or white? Cause I know there's been black and white in past versions.

Correct. You can start a gradient with one of the five and end it in another.

Nope, not this time. This one is like Shades of Blue which didn't have true white or black. If this one is a success and there's another in the future, I'm certainly open to suggestions of if black and white should replace two of the colors, but this just seems more "true" to the idea of 5 Shades.
